Reflect on the outcome of Project B. How did it go? What did it learn? What would you do differently next time? What went well and what was a struggle? How will you use what you learned in the future as a professional?
Project B, Things to Do for Dallas for the organization City Year was far more difficult than my first project, Logging in to the CFBISD Network. First and foremost, working with an organization I don’t see every day was an added challenge. It wasn’t like I could just drive downtown anytime I wanted to talk to my contact at the organization. While I admire how some people were able to do a project with the same organization twice, I am glad I got to do see how different organizations did stuff.
Another difference between Project B and my first one was the vague set of objectives. I could spend several days talking about the different things people could do in Dallas and not be complete. Considering the fact that Google already does a good job of that, it seems like that would be a waste of time. This uncertainty caused a little bit of anxiety on my part. I wish I picked a topic that was a little more straightforward. However, as mentioned in my previous blog entry because this was an assignment that was much different from what I would have in the classroom, it did stretch me and make me better at instructional design.
When creating the booklet and the PowerPoint, the ADHD part of me wanted to decorate each page. I, however, forced myself to be disciplined in my approach. I stayed away from using too much graphics, and I remained focused on getting the project done. Had I had more time, it would have been nice to add those graphics at the end. In the future, if I want to be more visually creative, I will use what I learned in the Multimedia class I took last summer, and storyboard everything before starting.
I felt analysis for this project was a little difficult. I did surveys and interviews with corps members with some success. However, because I had already decided to make a “things to do in Dallas” assignment, the Corps member need to find good housing, which is a very critical need was ignored. That being said, that would have been a much more difficult project, and it probably would have best been done with a partner.
I liked my project. I was super impressed with some of the projects I saw from other students. Many of them were more extensive than either of my projects. I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone else does in their presentations.
