Week 8: LTEC 5510
What feedback have you received and what have you done as a result? Why? Given that many standard corporate ID projects last about 3 weeks and this is week 8 of the session, how do you feel about working on a professional timeline?
The peer review of my instructional design piece, by Leonard
Ehlalt, was very informative. He seems
to have pointed out several bugs and typos in my design. I have fixed the typos. I need to give students more instructions on
how to use Quizlet and Genevese. I planned on doing in later, but now is as
good a time as any. There also seems to
be several bugs in the videos. I probably
need to have alternative means of getting to them. More navigation aids on the main page are
also things I plan on adding to my page.
Leonard’s question about “on level” is understandable.
However, that is educational vernacular that probably should be clarified, but
not removed. I have all three discussion questions, one for ELL, one for on
level, and one for GT on the same page. I
plan to tell the instructor on the job aide to only chose one of the
questions. Not everything needs to be
shown to the students. Writing down what
I want to put on the job aide would make sense. That would include how to
create Quizlet accounts, Geneverse accounts, and Bioman accounts.
So far, the strategy of creating the whole course and then
filling in all the parts seems to have ramped up the production of the site. I created
all my discussion board questions, and I plan to move on to creating all my
screencasts, and quizzes next. These seem to be more involved activities, that
will take a lot more time. Spring break will be a good time to do this. Recording
screencasts is difficult because it is hard to find a quiet place where I live.
I don’t want to record the washing machine.
Quiz questions should be a little easier to find.
I am uncertain I want to do instructional design
professionally. The strict three-week
deadlines seem to be hard to reach. In my earlier instructional design class,
the fact-finding section of the program appeared to be the most challenging part.
However, if I were to be part of a team, it might not be so bad, especially if I
got proficient at using canvas. When
thinking about just doing lesson planning, I can’t help but think that the most
enjoyable thing about my time in the classroom was not the lesson planning. I
don’t miss grading. My favorite part of teaching was my time with the students.
Getting to know students and being a part of their lives was one of the most rewarding
things I may ever do in my life. That part of teaching was also the most exhausting
part of the job. Teaching and creating this class have been fantastic opportunities
to challenge me. I look forward to seeing the final result of this project.
